My name is Beth Dale and I  first became interested in the Red Hat Society when I attended a concert in Nashville. We saw a sea of red hats and it was amazing-after speaking to the ladies in the chapter  and hearing all about it I was so keen to get home to try and join one ! Sadly I couldn't find one at first then I heard about the Harrogate ladies-so-as luck would have it ,the day I visited them coincided with the Halifax chapter visit-fabulous ! When all questions were answered I was more fired up than ever and resolved to start my own chapter in York. With the backing of Radio York and various newspapers we started York Scarlet Ladies and instantly became one of the largest chapters with over 60 ladies !

As each group is run differently, I wanted to do things such as go for lunch, to the theatre or the races, the nice things. It was quite a surprise when we asked the ladies what they wanted to do. Some of the 70 year olds said we’d like to go jet skiing, white water rafting, rallying. They weren’t the things I expected! My surprise was that there’s a network of people over 50 that just want the chance to do things that they can’t do on their own and say look at me, I’m 50 and I’m not gonna grow old gracefully and it’s another way to embarrass the kids and the grandchildren,

Due to ill health and disabilities I handed over my chapter to Meg over a year ago and just dipped in and out until I heard about the Red HatQuarters wanting Ambassadors to spread the word and help achieve world domination-so I applied and was appointed one of only two people in the Uk -the other is just in the Isle of Man-no pressure then......!!  I have a media background and have spent many years giving talks to groups and conventions on such diverse subjects as the Samaritans ...The Lions....and housing issues - so they felt I was most probably up for the role ! I am about to start new chapters in Northallerton and Skipton and helping a lady in Scotland to get started..infact...I'm open to ideas for new chapters-equally if you have a chapter that you feel would benefit from some media help please contact me and consider it done !

I am passionate about the Red Hat Society and feel so lucky that I've been given my dream role.
